Anita Garretson, 67, of Ashland, KY, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2023 following a brief battle with cancer. Anita was born January 15, 1956, and was preceded in death by her parents, Ellobee and Warren Howard, Sr., sisters Rita Witkus and Debra Johnson, and brother Glen Howard.
Anita leaves behind many family members including a daughter, Katie Hughes (David) of Ashland, sisters Janet Manning (Jim) and Maria Pence (Doug) of Ashland, brothers Warren Howard (Wendy) of Ashland, and Johnny Howard (Angie) of Lexington and a special brother-in-love, Bryant Carroll of Ashland, nieces Shelly Messer (Jimmy), Shauna Bragg (Jake), Holly Witkus (Shawn), Molly Church (Dave) of Ashland, Layla Williams (Bryan) of Greenup, Taylor Howard of Columbus, nephews Jimmy Manning Jr. (Amiee) of Ashland, Kevin Pence (Ashley) of Olive Hill, Billy Pence (Noora) of Asheville, NC, Orion Howard (Katie) of Georgetown, Kory Witkus, and Josh Howard of Ashland. She also leaves behind her 2 grandchildren, Grayson and Melodie Conley of Ashland, and a host of great nieces and nephews, including Cami, Eli and Ellie Messer, Jaxon, Kaylee and Kinley Robertson, Peyton Manning, Lucy Smedley and Beckham and Blakely Vanhorn, Rowan and Korbin Witkus, Wade Griffith, Cora and Graham Pence, and Bryson and Jack Williams.
Anita was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Ashland for most of her life. She also served as a Girl Scout leader. She taught in the Ashland Independent School District for many years and is still remembered as a favorite teacher by her students.
Anita was kind to everyone she met and was a friend to many. She will be greatly missed.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at Christ United Methodist Church in Ashland on Friday, August 11 from 6-8 pm.
