Connie (Thompson) Vanover

Connie Sue (Thompson) Vanover, 77, of South Shore, KY., passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024 surrounded by loved ones at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. She was born in Portsmouth, OH., January 29, 1947 a daughter of the late Lowell and Wanda Antis Thompson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Vanover.

She is survived by her four children, Barry (Glenna) Vanover, Jennifer (Keith) Lute, Deron (Rachel) Vanover, and Brad (Amy) Vanover, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and three siblings: Christopher (Betty) Thompson, Timothy (Linda) Thompson, and Andrew (Vicki) Thompson. 

Connie was and will always be a source of love for so many.  She grew up in South Shore, Kentucky.  At McKell High School, she was an enthusiastic student and friends with everyone.  On December 21, 1962, she married her sweetheart and partner for life, Roger, and became a loving wife.  Very soon after, she had her first child, Barry, and together with Roger built a family and home full of care and love.  As a mother, her presence and love were always around.  She was an active member of First Christian Church in South Shore, KY where she was often lending her singing talents in choir.  From cheering on her children at the ballfield to singing at her church, Connie was always involved in the community.  She retired as a Teacher’s Aide from Greenup County Schools.  She became Mamaw and loved being with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even the neighborhood kids.  Everyone knew Connie as a bright and loving person.   

Visitation will be held Friday, August 23, 2024 from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. at the Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home, 311 James E Hannah Dr, South Shore, KY. A Graveside Service will be held 1 P.M. Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Quillen Cemetery in Greenup, KY., with Brett Unger officiating. We will be leaving Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home at 12:15 P.M. on Saturday in funeral procession to the cemetery.
