Debra Gash Obituary

Debra Lewis Gash, 63, of South Portsmouth, KY peacefully drifted away in the arms of her lord on Tuesday February 28, 2017 at home after complications resulting from a battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Debbie was a loving, caring, and joyful person who loved her church, traveling (particularly the beach), horses and horseback riding, bowling, attending Red's baseball games, and her fur babies, Callie and Alley.

A member of First Baptist Church of South Shore since her teens, Debbie had been retired from the health care industry for 25+ years, starting her career as a nurses aid and surgical aid at Mercy hospital, working in the office of Dr. Billy Riddle, and completing the remainder of her career at SOMC as a nurses aid and unit clerk.

Debbie was born May 21, 1953 in Portsmouth, Ohio, a daughter of the late Paul Lewis and Fern Simmons Lewis, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Roger Lewis and beloved mother-in-law, Ethel Gash. She is survived by her husband, Daniel L. Gash; sister, Sharon (Don) Brown of Springboro, OH; sister-in-law, Sandy Lewis; nephews, Eric (Veronica) Brown and Justin Lewis; niece, Stephanie Lewis; great-nephews, Mason Brown, Hunter Hernandez and Hayden Hernandez; and great-niece, Madison Brown; along with beloved cousins, Vicki (Bill) Fisher, Teresa (Doug) Miller, Leon (Larie) Smith, Larry (Vicki) Smith, and many cousins in the Smith, Simmons, Hartley and Cooper families. She is also survived by those she viewed as sisters, Gwenda Hacker, Janie Coomer, Toni Schmeltz, Marilyn Chaney, Bonnie McKeag, Sharon Williams, Ruth McCleese and Eunice Stephenson.

The family would like to extend it's sincere thanks and appreciation to the excellent care provided over the last few months by Hospice of Hope of Maysville, KY, Dr. James McGinnis, the SOMC Senior Behavioral Unit staff, and Hospice of Hope Care Center. A special thanks to Hospice of Hope Home Care providers, Amanda, Daniel, Kristin, and Keith who have been with Debbie for much of this journey, and to Wanda Angel who assisted in her care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 776, South Shore, KY 41175 or to Hospice of Hope, 1435 Kenton Pointe Way, Maysville, KY 41056.
