Douglas Power Newell Jr.

Douglas Power Newell Jr., 93, of South Shore, KY died Wednesday January 17, 2018 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth, OH.
He was born June 13, 1924 in Maysville, KY a son of the late Douglas Power Newell and Nellie (Steele) Newell.
He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.
A veteran of the US Army, he was a Purple Heart recipient in World War II.
He owned and operated Delicious Fruits Apple Orchard for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post 276 in South Shore and the First United Methodist Church in South Shore.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Keibler Newell. Three children; Betty Ann (Chris) Thompson, Douglas P. Newell III and William L (Lisa) Newell.
12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters; Sarah Wallingford and Caroline Pheathean; and a daughter in law, Karen Newell.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday January 20, 2018 at MORTON FUNERAL HOME in South Shore, KY with Troy Poff officiating. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery with military graveside rites by James Dickey Post 23.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8pm and Saturday from 10 to 11am.
