Elmer Clayton Bradley. 84, of Lynn, Ky., passed away Sunday, February 2, 2020, at his home. Clayton was born September 14, 1935, at his family home on Horse Hollow Road, York, Ky., the son of Earl Bradley and Flora Spriggs Bradley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mae Allen Bradley; brothers Earl Jr "June"(Helen); Glenn" Hoover"( Jan); Jerry( Billie) and sisters Ruth"Pat"Boggs( Wayne); Helen(Dick) Bainer; Arlene "Boots" (Jack) Thompson and Shirley( Bob) Martin. Two other brothers died in infancy, Jimmy Darold and Douglas Bradley.
He is survived by sisters Wilma " Billie" Allen and Virginia " Bob" (Wayne) Hacker, his children, David (Deidre) Bradley, Boyd Ray Bradley, Curtis ( Lesli) Bradley and Lesley (Carl) Lovely; eight grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Bradley, Kristen Damron, Lucas, Andrew and Caleb Bradley and Gwen and Aidan Lovely; and seven great grandchildren; Caden, Sean and Kailee Bradley, Vince and Titus Bradley and Kilynn and Blaine Damron, in addition to a host of nieces and nephews.
A life-long resident of Greenup County, Clayton proudly served in the United States Army in the aftermath of the Korean War, earning several promotions and earning several marksmanship medals. Upon discharge he served in the Army Reserve and worked at Empire-Detroit Steel working his way up to Foreman and later Superintendent. When the mill closed, he and his wife Shirley owned and operated Mr. Jim's Mart in Lynn, Ky.
Clayton was a very good self-taught guitar player emulating the Chet Atkins style and enjoyed playing with a host of picking buddies. He was also an avid golfer, playing often with his brothers and son, David.
After the death of his wife, Clayton was the primary caregiver for his special needs son, Boyd Ray. Only in his later years did he need help with Boyd. Clayton developed dementia in those final years, but never lost sight of Boyd, always inquiring about his care. The family wishes go give special thanks to Mary Cassidy for the devoted care she provided to both Boyd and Clayton.
Clayton was much loved and respected and the name Clayton survives by way of his son, David Clayton, grandson Michael Clayton and great grandsons Titus Clayton and Clayton Blaine.
Funeral Services will be 11 A.M. Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, KY with Pastor Tom Melvin officiating. Burial will follow at Allen-Bradley Cemetery in Greenup, Ky. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the funeral home starting at 6 P.M. and one hour before the service on Wednesday.
