Howard Burke Jr, 81, of South Shore, Kentucky passed away July 7th, 2021. Howard was the son of the late Howard Burke Sr. and Sena Lewis Burke.
After his highschool graduation in 1958, Howard proudly served in the US Navy; where he obtained over 800 flying hours as a Navy Airborne Air controller, and spent over a year overseas patrolling the coasts of Russia and China. He was also one of the few to witness the first Boeing 707 to land on Guam.
After the Navy, Howard became a talented union iron worker. (local 272 and 769) He constructed hotels, skyscrapers, and bridges from Miami, Florida to New York City. Howard attended Grace Baptist church in Greenup, KY.
Howard also had a true farmer's heart and skill. Alongside his plentiful gardens, he raised various farm animals. If you can name a farm animal, he had it at one time.
Howard was a Kentucky Colonel, and a past master of the Miami temple masonic lodge #260 in coral gables Florida, and the Harrison Fullerton masonic lodge #937 in South shore, Kentucky. Howard was also a member of the American Legion #276 of South Shore, Kentucky; and the DAV Peerless 10 of Portsmouth, Ohio. These are just a few of the organizations he loved and contributed to.
Howard Burke was honestly one of the most giving people you could meet. He spent years in Miami, Florida as a Director of Clowns for the Shriners Children's Hospital parades, even donning a clown costume himself for the events.
Howard loved loving people. His memory is cherished by his daughter, Susan, her husband Donald Fletcher, and their three children: Ava, Nina and Elie Mae. He leaves behind a brother, Lewis, and his wife Lorraine Burke of Williamsburg, Virginia; two sons, and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Howard was married for 55 years.
He was preceeded in death by one brother, Toby; two sisters, Elaine Seelhorst and Mary Clarke and two infant children: Mark and Cynthia Jane.
Funeral service will be conducted Monday 12pm July12th at the Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday and Sunday evening from 5 till 7pm. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7pm
