James Herbert (“Herb” or “Pop”) Adkins, 83, of Flower Mound, TX, formerly of South Shore, KY, passed away on November 23, 2023 peacefully in the presence of family members. He was born in Fullerton, KY on February 22, 1940, a son of the late Ellis Cain and Ruth Amanda Warnock Adkins.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Don Adkins, and two sisters, Faye Helms and Marilyn Owen.
Herb was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, coin collecting and watching Oklahoma football and Kentucky basketball.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Judith Kaye Adkins; one son, James Kevin (Elizabeth) Adkins of Flower Mound, TX; one sister, Norma Bowling of South Shore, KY; one brother, David Adkins of South Portsmouth, KY; one granddaughter, Lesli (David) Vermilyea of Warren, RI; one grandson, Chris (Callie) Adkins of Flower Mound, TX; three great-grandchildren, Audrey, Layla and Everett; along with several other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
A memorial service will be held 11 A.M. Friday, June 21, 2024 at Siloam Cemetery in South Shore, KY, with Brett Unger officiating. Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, KY are caring for arrangements.
