James Fitch Obituary

James Daniel "Dan" Fitch, 67, of Portsmouth, Ohio, was born August 16, 1954; he received the ultimate healing and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 13, 2022, after multiple prolonged illnesses, including cancer, chronic kidney failure, congenital heart failure, COPD, and an irreparable hernia, during his lifetime.

Dan was a forward observer in the infantry and Sergeant in the U.S. Army and valued his service to his country highly. He'd planned on a lifetime career in the military until suffering extensive hearing loss due to a mishap training simulation involving a hand grenade. He left the Army and went on to be an HVAC technician until he was hit by a truck at 28 years of age and permanently disabled. He enjoyed cooking, watching military movies and the Sci-Fi channel, completing home improvement projects, carpentry, and was skilled in electronic repair, and most of all, enjoyed supporting his wife by taking over household tasks while she worked full-time. He was a man of few words, strong-willed, endured his many difficulties without complaints, and demonstrated love by action.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Jenny Johnson, Carla Brown; and one brother, Mike McMahon.

Dan is survived by the love of his life, Catherine Fitch, whom he married 51 years ago; two daughters, Cherie (Jason) Hanes, and Diane (David) Bailey; one son, James Carl Fitch; seven grandchildren, Kayla Riley, Seth (Caitlyn) Goddard, Megan (Will) Toleman, Levi Riley, Lexie (Tate) Skeens, Samuel Hanes, Alivia Hanes; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Theresa (Scott) Phipps; and one step brother, Mark McMahon

A Memorial Service will be held 1:30 P.M. Thursday, August 18, 2022 at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East at 100 Veterans Memorial Drive, Grayson, Kentucky, 41143.
