Jerry H. "Skip" Bower, 79, of Portsmouth, Ohio died Saturday September 10, 2016
at Hill View Retirement Center.
He was born December 14, 1936 in Portsmouth, a son of the late John Bower and
Dona McGraw Bower. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his
wife, Glenna Hardin Crawford Bower; a brother and sister in law, Jack and Betty
Bower and step-granddaughter Courtney Thomas.
He is survived by three sons; Michael, Todd (Stephanie) and Terry Bower;
daughter, Kathy (James) Pierron; step-son, Greg (Lydia) Crawford; grandchildren,
Leslie Keating, Sean Bower, Brett (Jackie) Pierron, Kyle Pierron, Abbie Bower,
Tanner Bower and Westlee Bower; step-grandchildren, Shane (Casey) Thomas and
Crystal (Kelby) Steele; great grandchildren, Josiah Bower, Grace Keating, Stella
Pierron, Miller Pierron and Gavin Mead; step-great grandchildren, Emmitt Arnold,
Waylon Thomas, Casey Steele and Lauren Steele.
Skip graduated from West Portsmouth High School. He was a longtime sales manager
at Frank Tiedge Ford and Frank Tiedge Oldsmobile Cadillac in Portsmouth. He was
a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Portsmouth Elks Lodge No. 154 and was an
excellent golfer. He was club champion several years at the Elks Country Club
and had the honor of playing with many professional golfers including Jack
Nicklaus, Gary Player and Al Geiberger. He enjoyed teaching golf and was an
instructor many years at the annual Elks youth summer camp.
Memorial donations are requested to help support youth golf in the Portsmouth
area at Shawnee State Golf Course and the Elks Country Club. Donations can be
made to the Skip Bower Junior Golf League, c/o Kathy Pierron, 2835 Willow Way,
Portsmouth, Ohio 45662. Donations may also be made to the Hill View Retirement
Center Employee Fund.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Tuesday September 13, 2016 at Morton
Funeral Home in South Shore, KY. with Gary Howell officiating. Burial will be in
Hardin Cemetery in South Shore. Visitation will be Tuesday from Noon to 2pm at
the funeral home.
