Mary Catherine (Slone) Gibbs

Catherine Slone Gibbs, 96, of Portsmouth, Ohio, went to be with Lord Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Hillview Retirement Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was born in Clintwood, VA., on October 13, 1927, a daughter of the late Autie and Bertha Newberry Slone.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by three sisters, Eula Garanger, Ruth Elkins and Bobbie Lyons. Also preceded in death by her first husband and father of her two daughters Paul McCalister.

Left behind to cherish her memory are two daughters, Vickie (Roger) Quillen of South Shore, KY., and Carolyn (Gene) Colegrove of Powell, TN; three grandchildren, Djwana Colgrove, Jillisa Richards and Roger Quillen II; four great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren; and a special niece Janet Carillo and several other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Catherine was an Occupational Therapist retiring after 20 years of service with Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, OH.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Hillview Retirement Center staff for their care and kindness.

Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Monday, July 1, 2024, at Morton-Hunt Family funeral Home in South Shore, KY., with Kenny Fox officiating. The Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashland, KY. Visitation for family and friends will be Monday at the funeral home from 10 A.M. until the time of service.
