MORTON ''JACK'' BRADLEY JR., 92, of South Shore, KY died Saturday August 12, 2017 at his residence. He was born January 20, 1925 in New Boston, Ohio, a son of the late Morton Bradley Sr. and Effie Cleary Bradley. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Wanda Everman Bradley, his second wife, Norma Charles Bradley; sisters, Eva Mae Utterback, Glenna Colley and Louise Phillips; brothers, Raymond Bradley and Robert H. Bradley.
He was a World War II Veteran and participated in three island invasions in the Pacific. He left Mckell High School at age 17 to go to WWII. He returned from active duty to finish school and later got an Associate Degree from Interstate Business College in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was in the Merchant Marines, now known as the Navy Seals. After 13 years in the Navy, he transferred to the Air Force. After completing a tour of duty in Iceland, he was assigned to Edwards Air Force Base in California. While there he worked with pilots assigned to the test pilot school. He maintained their flying equipment and helped them dawn their pressure suits for high altitude flights. Some of these pilots were chosen for the astronaut program. His last two years of his Air Force career was with the intercontinental ballistic missile squadron where he was awarded the accommodation medal. He retired with 21 years of service, then he and his family returned to South Shore where he worked for 20 years for North American Refractories, retiring from there in 1988. He is survived by three children; Sandy Gammon (Jim Simpson) of South Shore, Michael Bradley of Lexington, KY., and Terry Bradley (Bill Washmuth) of West Portsmouth, OH. Five grandchildren; Shane (Stacey) Diller, Jason (Lisa) Gammon, Brandi Fike Flannery, Jamie (Chris) Goldcamp and Noelle (Gabe) Metzler. 11 great grandchildren; Chaislyn Metzler, Devin Diller, Kyle Gammon, Trenton Fike, Taylor Gammon, Cody Metzler, Trevor Fike, Kasey Gammon, Carly Metzler, Avery Goldcamp and Adler Goldcamp. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Thursday August 17, 2017 at MORTON FUNERAL HOME in South Shore with Brett Unger officiating. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery in South Shore with military graveside rites by James Dickey American Legion Post 23. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 pm and Thursday from 11am to 1pm at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at mortonfh.com
