Ricky Ray Lawson JR

Ricky Ray Lawson JR., 41, of Portsmouth, OH., formerly of South Shore, KY., passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023, at SOMC Hospital in Portsmouth, OH. He was born in Portsmouth, OH., September 16, 1981, a son of Rick and Connie Lawson of South Shore, KY.

He was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Portsmouth, OH. Ricky had a God given talent for music and was a beautiful pianist, he started taking lessons at the age of 5, he could read music, but he also could play by ear. Combining those two things made his music unique and set him apart when he played. Music was Ricky’s passion; he directed choirs and played for many cantatas. Ricky truly loved playing in church and brought music into all aspects of his life and into everyone’s life around him.

Ricky had a kindhearted spirit and was willing to help anyone, his pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met, he loved life, his family, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Robert Lawson, and maternal grandparents Dave (Betty) Bennett.

Left behind to cherish his memory along with his parents are one sister, Megan (Brett) Kennard of South Shore, KY; grandparents, Marilyn (Jim) Richards of South Shore, KY; one niece, Bryleigh Kennard; one nephew, Gunner Kennard and several other family and friends who will sadly miss him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 P.M. Thursday, June 1, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 515 5th Street Portsmouth, OH. Burial will follow at MT Zion Cemetery in South Shore, KY. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, KY., from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. with a Prayer Service starting 8 P.M.
