Ruth Lavon Shaw Craycraft, age 91, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2018, after a brief illness.
Ruth was born March 13, 1927, near South Portsmouth, KY, to William Shaw and Leona Ada Thompson Shaw. She and her parents were members of the South Portsmouth Methodist Church in Beattyville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse of 66 years Robert William (Bill) Craycraft, and her sisters Mae Elizabeth Shaw (Paul) Milam and Doris Jean Shaw (Leonard) Willis. Ruth and Bill had two sons, Richard Wayne Craycraft of Friendship, OH, and Robert Dean Craycraft of Washington,DC.
Ruth greatly enjoyed her grandchildren Randall William (Lonna) Craycraft, Mark David (Angie)
Craycraft, Erica Gail Craycraft (Nick) Bartlett, and great granddaughter, Brooklyn Craycraft. Her special friends were Cathy Marie White and Gary Steven Jenkins, and special neighbors were Meredith and Cathy Ann Wagner, Richard and Sue Book, and Jackie McDermott. Ruth's surviving nieces and nephews are Sharon Kay Milam (Russ) Berkoben, Teena Jean Milam (Tim) Gedert, William (Bill) Lee (Marilyn) Willis, Rhonda Joanne Willis (Jack) Trumbull, Kimberly Sue Willis (Jonas) Herrmann, Brenda Joyce Craycraft (John) Hayes, MaryAnn Craycraft (Frank) Provinziano, Barbara Jean Craycraft Flack, Jackie
Lee (Phyllis) Craycraft, Ruth Ann Felty (Gary) Greathouse, Sharon Kay Felty (Dale) Gammon, Geraldine Craycraft Cooper, and Charles Edward Craycraft.
Ruth was proud to have played on the girls' basketball team and been a boys' basketball cheerleader at the South Portsmouth High School where she graduated in 1945. She was employed at the Williams Shoe Mfg. Co. and JC Penney in Portsmouth many years ago before retiring to raise her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, yardwork, watching Cincinnati Reds baseball games, and especially golfing; she proudly claimed two holes-in-one at The Lakes Golf Course where she had many friends over her latter years.
Special thanks to Dr. George Esham and all the staff at Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC) PT and OT, Home Care, Hospital and Hospice where she always received very good care.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday October 5, 2018 at MORTON FUNERAL HOME in South Shore. KY, with Rev. Gary Hopkins officiating, burial will follow in Siloam Cemetery in South Shore. Visitation will be Friday from 12 noon to the time of services at 2pm. Online condolences may be expressed at mortonfh.com
