Sybil D. Dupuy, 85

Sybil Dolores Miller (nee Zornes) died peacefully on Friday, August 2nd 2024 at her home in Greenup, surrounded by her loving family. She was 85 years young and gone far too soon.

Born on September 8, 1938, to the late Ira Ivan Zornes and Opal Pauline Zornes (nee Tabor) of Carter County, Kentucky, she became the younger sister to Juanita May and Oral Ogden “Bud.”

Growing up Sybil’s childhood resembled many agriculturalists, raising animals and living off the land. When asked what she did for fun, her response was, “we worked until there wasn’t work to be done.” But her and her siblings did make time to play outside and even pulled their money together to buy a used bicycle. One of her favorite games to play was ‘Red Rover’ over the house.

Sybil graduated from South Portsmouth high school where she was a cheerleader from her freshman through Junior years. She married Raymond “Ray” Dupuy in December,1955 and had two beautiful daughters; Vickie Rae (Michael Leonhart) and Cristy Lynne (Mark Fuller).

A woman of many talents, Sybil entered the workforce both in the local shoe factory and later became the secretary of the Greenup County School Board of Education. However, she loved being a homemaker to her girls more than anything. Baking, cooking and sewing were her passions. If you couldn’t find her in the kitchen, she was on the golf course or in her pool on route 7.

She will be missed deeply by her daughters, grandchildren; Elvira “Harlee” Fuller of Ashland, OH; Britnee (Jeffrey) Swick, Cody (Megan) Fuller, Crystal (Kelby) Steele of Ashland, KY; and great-grandchildren Casey and Lauren Steele of Ashland, KY.

Sybil is survived by her husband Carl Miller of Greenup, his five children; Shelly (Jarrod) Miller, Leeann (Bob) Spangler, Mike (Shannon) Miller, Eddie (Linda) Miller, Barbara (Greg) Spillman; grandchildren, Carley (Timmy), Tiff (Ryan), Bobby, Ryan, Jessica (Chris), Wesley, John Michael (Samantha), Austin (Kelley) and numerous great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by two grandsons, Michael “Brock” Leonhart in October, 2015 and Dougie Carter in January 2024 and previous spouses; Raymond M. Dupuy in April, 2000 and William H. Bench in December, 2011.

A visitation will be held at the Morton-Hunt Family Funeral home in South Shore, KY on Tuesday August 6th from 5pm-8pm.

Services will be held at the Wurtland First Church of the Nazarene, 619 Fulton Ave, in Wurtland, KY on Wednesday, August 7th at 12pm with a private burial to follow. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church.
